Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

Anyone! And music lessons aren't just for children! Many families arrange lessons back-to-back for more than one child or for a child and a parent.

How are lessons generally scheduled?

Lessons are generally 30 minutes each, but longer lessons can be arranged. Sessions can be arranged weekly, twice weekly, monthly, etc. based on progress or convenience.

Where are the lessons?

Lessons are in your home or at a Miss Mozart Approved neighbourhood studio.

Do I need a piano to get started?

No. (Miss Mozart senses the sigh of relief!) The best idea, especially for a beginning student, is to purchase a keyboard. A keyboard can be purchased for under $100 (link to Musician's friend -Yamaha PSR-E223 although Miss Mozart's favourite choice for beginners and one she uses for several hours a day at school is the(Link to musician's friend (Yamaha YPT-410 for $199. It is usually easy to resell a keyboard and upgrade later if necessary to a piano or digital piano such as the(link) Yamaha YPG-535 for around $500 or any of the weighted 88 key Yamaha digital pianos(Around $1500). Pianos are an investment. Please contact Miss Mozart directly for suggestions if you are interested.

At what age should lessons begin?

Lessons can begin at any age. Successful musicians and a love of music can begin as early as age two with Itsy Bitsy Mozart programming (singing and keyboard exploration) all the way through to seniors who have always wanted to learn to play.

Where do I get books and materials?

Books and materials can be purchased right on this website. If you are not sure what supplies you need, contact Miss Mozart and she can send you lists with links and the music will be sent directly to you. No need to aimlessly wander around music stores wasting valuable time and money purchasing the wrong materials!

What is the cost?

The cost of each lesson is dependent upon the teacher’s experience and education. Teachers that have to travel a long distance from their home may charge additional fees. Fees will be clearly stated before lessons start. No surprises. There is a one time $20 registration fee per family.
Typically lessons range from $22-$36 per half-hour private lesson (in-home or studio). There are some opportunities for group lessons where the costs will decrease significantly (ex: a beginner student who shares the lesson with her mom) or a group lesson (a class of preschoolers exploring keyboard and learning musical skills through games together).

Can we take lessons together in our home?

Yes! 2-3 beginner piano students can be taught at the same time. Another common scenario is for a group of neighbourhood preschoolers to get together once a week for an hour of Itsy Bitsy Mozart. Contact the office for details.

What area does Miss Mozart In-Home School of Music serve?

Miss Mozart serves Cochrane, Alberta and surrounding areas.
